Journey Musings from Crazy Pete

I’ve been musing a lot about Journey recently, we have overcome the first hurdle of getting the night up and running.

We have a plan in place for PR and online, which are both beginning to pay off, so what’s next? where do we go from here?

I think one of our big selling points is location vs drinks prices, where else on George street can you have such a great night (at a cool location) without it breaking the bank?

Shout it from the rooftops, bore all your friends, nag your work colleagues – get to Journey on Wednesdays at Lulu

Preview – 8th April – Journey at Lulu – Edinburgh Nightclub – Wednesdays

What can I say about this weeks Journey,

Well for the second performance from the guys this week, they will be joined by The Vinyl Club DJ’s – all looking to cut up a storm and make your Wednesday feel like the weekend.

Andy P passed me his comments earlier:

“For the 5th instalment of Wednesdays new hedonistic club night at Lulu your usual residents andyproblems, dj Darkside and darrell Harding are joined for the evening by Leith fm‘s Vinyl Club dj’s Gerry Mawhinney and James Carroll. ( Check ’em out on Fridays at 9pm on 98.8fm or log onto Leith fm‘s webpage ) As well as our usual drinks deals we’re serving up everything from deep and funky club house to tech and electro. Come join the party from 10-3am. I will see you on the dancefloor……..Andy Problems”

Again all the usual drink promotions are running, so it’s not only a great night with cool beats but like the budgie “its cheap” too!

Preview – Journey at Lulu – Weds 1/04/09

Hi guys,

Crazy Pete here again, well last weeks night was, by all accounts, a roaring success. I had to leave early but numbers were looking really good early on and continued throughout the night.

Got to say that DJ Darkside’s set was again inventive….do we have another Soulwax on our hands?, he was dropping killer beats with familliar tunes; Jamiroquai was a particular highlight for me and unexpected too…NICE.

Problems was, as he always is, smooth unflustered & seamless.

Darrell Harding is just getting better and better week on week (no pressure for tonight mate!!), confident to wave and smile at me whilst I pushed a camera in his face & never dropped a beat, cool bruv…very cool.

Thanks again to everyone that are supporting Journey we can’t do this without you. Special mention to Dean (Deano) Jennings for his awsome PR-ing last week, well appreciated by all.

It’s great to see that the change in PR tactics paid dividends.

I’ve got some cool video clips of the guys in action which I will ensure gets posted up soon…watch this space.

However if you’re in any doubt over what to do tonight let me leave this post with words from one of our resident DJ’s; The Legend that is Darrell Harding

“Hello People, Wednesday night is upon us again, and you know what that means, Journey at Lulu. No this is not an april fool, we are back at you playing some of the best Tech House and Electro around.

Take advantage of the cheap drinks promos – remember it’s £2 a double vodka & mixer, £2 a Henieken and the deadly £1.50 shots of black and white sambuca and the old favourite Tequila. If thats not enough to swing youu – how about a cheeky £2.50 jaigerbomb?

It’s £2 entry before 11pm with a flyer, £3 from 11 til 12 and £4 thereafter.

So if your excuse is that you are working Thursday morning….invite your boss to join us too!!!

Hope to see you all there …. and don’t forget – It’s not the destination….IT’S THE JOURNEY!!!!!

Loving that tag line, see y’all tonight

Journey at Lulu – 1st Night – Edinburgh – George Street

It was a cold miserable night on George Street the 11th of March 2009.

I braved the howling gale and driving rain to get along to Lulu for the soft launch of Journey.

Journey is the brain child of three upcoming DJ’s named; Andy Problems, DJ Darkside and Darrell Harding.

I met the guys at the door and it was clear that the nerves had begun to set it, lets face it it aint ideal to have shit weather the night of your launch! Numbers seemed few and far between.

Darkside opened the night with a stylishly understated, uplifting and funky set, looking around you could see nodding heads and appreciative smiles.

Checking the bar the numbers were improving and those that came in were staying……RESULT!

Problems then took over the reigns with seamless ease, I’ve known Andy for a long time and I don’t think he realises just how good he actually is.

Problems carried on the vibe but stepped it up a bit, drawing the nodding heads to the multi coloured dance floor, the place was beginning to buzz.

More and more folk were showing up and it was smiles all around when our third DJ took his place.

Taking over the decks like a pro, Darrell Harding, kept the up beat funky house tunes spinning, the girls kept on dancing and the place kept on filling.

Cool Darrell - No nerves on this boy!

The end product, a perfectly produced, chilled yet funky night enjoyed by all that came……nice one guys.

Special thanks to Gerry from The Vinyl Club @ Leith FM, Nicola (PR Girl Exraordinare) and me “Crazy” Pete (Online Promotion).

To everyone that came a massive thanks, please keep supporting us and the guys will continue to serve up great nights.
